CHRISTIAN FORMATION AND EDUCATION FOR YOUTH

Teenagers are growing into a new phase in their faith. At Grace, we rejoice in and respect this growth process, and we accompany youth on their journey.

Confirmation Preparation Classes

At Grace, young people interested in confirmation are invited to join in an intensive time of exploration and formation in the confirmation class.  We use the Confirm Not Conform curriculum, in which youth are invited to examine their beliefs and ask questions about their own spiritual lives.  Confirmands attend classes, field trips, and retreats, and work individually with a mentor.  The course concludes with a recognition service at Grace, and the confirmation service at the Cathedral.

 

Youth Group - Grace Youth in Community (GYC)

GYC is the youth group for those in grades 8-12.  This group provides a place where youth can explore what it means to be a Christian in today’s world, as well as make friends with other young people.  We have a Sunday morning Bible study each week in which we address different topics relevant to our spiritual lives.  Each month we also meet together for service and social activities.  Check back to this page for updates to the monthly calendar for the group!

GYC Update

February is bringing something new to Grace Youth in Community. Most of us watch movies and talk about them with our friends, but do we think about what these movies are saying about our own lives?  In Sunday School, we watched a clip from The Matrix and had a great discussion about choices and the status quo.  This month we’ll watch the entire movie and continue that discussion—knowing what the Matrix ended up being, would we still choose to take the red pill and go “down the rabbit hole?” Which path would Jesus have chosen? Why or why not?
Once a month (from February to June) we’ll watch a movie together and talk about it with one another. There are no right or wrong answers-just your voice!  Dinner will be provided each time-all you have to do is show up. And bring friends, if you’d like!  If the movie is R-rated, permission slips will be required beforehand. This month’s movie night will be on February 12 starting at 7 PM.   Hilary will pass out permission slips in Sunday School.  Please contact her if you have any questions or if you need permission slips for friends or have lost your own.
